“Throughout our lifetimes we have had to do business with several different mortgage providers. Each time was a nightmare to say the least- even at our own bank! No one was ever straight forward with us on the paperwork they still needed or what to expect and when to expect it. “I recently refinanced a rental property for a lower mortgage rate. I had checked out several banks both online and through my financial institution. I filled out several inquiries and usually got bombarded with phone calls from overly aggressive loan officers, even though I specifically asked to be contacted via email. I received an email from Joe Scopel (1st Mariner Bank). He was very polite and courteous. Not pushy and aggressive. He asked what I would be interested in and we communicated via email. He happily informed me that I qualified for the interest rate reduction by almost 1%. After reading some of the reviews of 1st Mariner online, I was skeptical about going through with the process. Joe assured me that he had never experienced an upset customer and guaranteed that he would stand by me throughout the entire process.
I decided to go ahead with 1st Mariner. Joe was a tremendous help. He never missed an opportunity to contact me and make sure everything was going smoothly. It took me all of about 30 minutes (total) once the loan was approved. Joe arranged for a local notary to come to my house and sign the paperwork. He gave me all the necessary timelines and let me know every step of the process.

“It was a pleasure working with Dennis [Waskiewicz] from the beginning to the end of the loan refinancing. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of my experience with Dennis is the fact that he is a man of very high personal integrity. When I first called him and discussed that wanted to refinance, he did not try to talk me into doing it or use any high-pressure tactics to convince me. He carefully and meticulously spelled out all the pros and cons of refinancing a house that was “under water” and then gave me a few days to think about it and talk it over with my wife.
In retrospect, every single thing Dennis told me would happen – happened! There were several hoops we had to jump through to get everything done. It didn’t make it any easier that I am in Afghanistan with a 10.5 hour difference, and Dennis also had to make sure my wife was kept abreast of everything because she played a big role in the refinancing. Even with the time difference, I could call Dennis at any hour to get answers to any questions or concerns I had. My wife could also contact Dennis at any time when needed.
I had tried to refinance my house on several occasions but I did not feel that any of the loan officers had our best interest at heart and some simply told me they couldn’t do it. Dennis was the exception and explained everything to me in a way that I could understand. It is very important to have trust in the loan officer with whom you are working, and I trusted Dennis from the beginning and knew he was looking out for our best interest.
There was very little stress or misunderstanding associated with the refinancing because Dennis was always there to promptly answer all of our questions. My wife and I feel really relieved that we were finally able to take advantage of the low interest rates offered now and thanks to Dennis, our out of pocket expenses were much less than we originally thought we’d have to pay. “I was working with a local bank on my second home with an accepted offer. The first offer fell through because the seller was being unreasonable, the second offer seemed to be going well until just before closing. Let me just say, we are a first-time home buyers. Although, we have had relatives and friends who have told us “stories” about their experience. It is quite different when it is you. Our home buying experience (between buyer and seller) was no different. Notwithstanding, Steve always kept us on track. My wife, Paula, and I have lived in Frisco, TX since 2002. The year before, we rented an apartment in Plano, TX. We shopped around our refinance to several different companies, and after 48 hours of research, we chose to refinance through 1st Mariner Bank, entirely because of the service that Justin provided for us. The original interest rate that Justin set us up with was not the lowest bid (although the rates changed and he was able to match it once we had started the process), but Justin’s customer service and professionalism was so far above and beyond any of the other companies that we talked to that the choice was clear and easy.

“Matt Britton has mastered the finer points of the VA loan. In March 2012 I was well underwater on my first (yes, Matt got me a second) VA Loan. I visited VAMortgage.com, leading to a call from Matt, and within a month he saved me about $400 per month by refinancing my home via the VA IRRRL (Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loan). No appraisal necessary! I thought it was too good to be true, and was skeptical, but Matt handled everything. A lawyer stopped by my house within a month, and in a half hour I had a 3.75% APR. It gets even better. Matt informed me I could use my remaining entitlement to purchase another home with a second VA loan. I did so in July 2013 at an even better rate. He understands the intricacies of the VA’s rules; since I used the IRRRL, the VA no longer required me to occupy the first home. I was able to use the difference between the $417,000 loan limit and the amount of my first loan to purchase my new home with no down payment. As much as the two realtors and the seller tried to butcher the deal (unintentionally), Matt coordinated among everyone to get us to the closing. Matt even advocated for me with the head underwriter. I am CONVINCED, that without Matt Britton as my loan officer, pigs would have flown before I moved into this 4,000 square foot home with a monthly payment of $1302!!!”
